Crankset

Scientific training requires accurate measurements and ease of use, qualities offered by the new ULTEGRA R8100 power meter. Dual-sided measurement has a maximum deviation of 2.0%, and zero calibration is a quick and easy procedure. Perhaps even more significant are the long battery life, easy charging and ANT+ and Bluetooth®LE connectivity, making use and training recording easier than ever.

Technologies

Hollowtech II

A perfect balance between stiffness, strength, weight and efficiency. Hollowtech II technology aims to produce a superior crankset that maximises power transfer. Crankset stiffness ensures pedalling efficiency, while low weight, a key crankset characteristic, helps the rider over long distances where more pedalling is required. Naturally, Shimano has made every effort to deliver an ultra-lightweight and extremely stiff crankset, two conflicting goals. Hollowtech technology, consisting of an ultra-lightweight hollow crank arm that maintains stiffness, was developed by Shimano using its exclusive forging technologies. The addition of Hollowtech II technology integrates the bottom bracket axle with the right crank arm, providing greater stiffness, reduced weight and high dimensional stability. The bottom bracket's axial bearing system ensures better weight distribution, resulting in more efficient power transfer. The Hollowtech II crankset was developed to achieve an optimal balance between stiffness and rolling performance, resulting in an ultra-lightweight and very elegant design.

Hollowtech Crank Arm

Hollow forged crank arms. An ultra-lightweight crankset reduces both bike weight and rotating mass, making acceleration easier. The aim is to reduce crankset weight without reducing strength or stiffness. Advanced Shimano forging technology has solved this problem with the Hollowtech crankset. As with high-quality frame tubes, a hollow crank arm can provide incredible strength and stiffness at a very low weight.

Hollowglide
The highly rigid hollow construction reduces weight while maintaining strength. Better power transfer and faster, more precise front shifting.

Founded in 1921 in Sakai, Japan, by Shozaburo Shimano, Shimano is still based in the same city today. For cyclists, it makes drivetrains, brakes, wheels, pedals and cycling shoes. Its history in bicycle components began with the production of freewheels in 1922.
